Looking ahead

Nothing about us without us.

Two new learning pathways from IAP2 Canada: Indigenous Engagement and Accessibility Engagement certifications.

Nothing About Us Without Us: Indigenous Engagement Certification

Introduced at the conference by Judy Carlick Pearson, this three-course certification is designed for engagement professionals in Canada who have an interest in or are planning to engage with Indigenous communities. Together, the courses build the understanding and skills needed for respectful, culturally appropriate engagement that does not harm, injure or repeat colonial practices.

Course 1: First steps to understanding Indigenous Engagement (7 hours)

The historical, cultural and contemporary context of Indigenous engagement in Canada, and foundational principles for respectful, non-harmful engagement.

Course 2: Planning for working with the Indigenous community (7 hours)

Developing an Indigenous-informed engagement plan that respects cultural protocols and lived experiences, and considers the impacts of colonialism and historical trauma.

Course 3: Working effectively with the Indigenous community (7 hours)

Applying Indigenous-informed principles and planning frameworks in real-world settings to build respectful relationships with Indigenous communities, rights holders, leaders and community members.
